Matthew John Serra (born June 2, 1974) is an American mixed martial artist and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt. He is a former UFC Welterweight Champion and an ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship silver medalist. He began practicing martial arts at an early age, first studying kung fu. In the 1990s, he began studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Renzo Gracie and on May 23, 2000 was awarded his black belt, the first American to do so under Gracie.

UFC 119:Background

On August 15, 2010, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira had to pull out of his bout with Frank Mir due to an injury that will require surgery. It later was reported to be a recurring hip injury. Mirko Filipović has been lined up to replace Nogueira in the main event. Mirko has stated he does not expect to be 100% because of joining the card on late notice, but he did not want to let down his fans or UFC management.

Aaron Riley was expected to face UFC newcomer Pat Audinwood at this event, but Riley was forced from the card with an injury and was replaced by Thiago Tavares.

This event will feature the UFC debut of PRIDE and K-1 veteran, Mark Hunt. Hunt holds wins over MMA legends Mirko Filipovic and Wanderlei Silva.
